12 Arrested as UK Terror Probe Forces Early End to Major Islamic Event
Counter Terrorism Policing of the United Kingdom has arrested 12 people across different locations in the UK following a serious threat of terrorism on a large scale Islamic gathering called the UK Ijtima, held at Shrubland Hall in Suffolk. This event, which saw the attendance of 15,000 people, was prematurely terminated as a result of safety measures. In response to the police's quick action, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood referred to it as saving many lives. Out of the 12 people, eight people were arrested under the Terrorism Act while three other people are charged with conspiracy to murder. The Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, among others, criticized the anti-Muslim hate and also assured the citizens that even though the national threat is at level ‘severe,’ it does not pose any risk to the citizens from this particular occurrence.
